I feel the new M cars are all becoming part of this copy+paste design model. They all have the same Rear bumper design and exhaust look, the same dual facia front bumper structure, the same steering wheel on most of them, even the engines are shared amongst the M5/M6 and X5/X6Ms.
There is very little that's exciting about this car for me.

They tracked the leak to someone in BMW's North American division.

Clueless. There will be two M550's. M550i and M550e or three if you count the European M550d.

looks great. Any chance of a wagon coming this time around? I loved the F11 touring and always wished they brought it here.

As long as they don't staple all those stupid chrome/black trims like on the new 7 series all over it and ruin the paint lines I'll be a happy camper.
What's with the weird gap in between the kidney grills? More chrome to delete?

Updated Feb 14, 2017 with our M5 Touring renderings
Although there is currently no M5 touring planned, we couldn't help but let our imagination wander what such a beast would look like. We gave our imagined M5 touring the same styling elements as for the F90 M5 renderings above, which were based on leaked CAD images of the next gen M5. The result is something we think would have been a formidable rival for any AMG wagon.

Would buy one of these in a heartbeat, but as it is, I'm putting an order in for an AMG wagon later this year. Because BMW hates America.

I'd buy a M5 wagon in a heartbeat to replace my X5M as long as it was AWD.

Please do it BMW, and not just the M5 Estate, we want the 5er Touring too
Don't forget: The North American market almost didn't get the [E36] M3 after the E30 M3 because of similar reasons (i.e., no projected North American market for the M3). BMW enthusiasts, led by the BMWCCA, initiated a letter-writing campaign that grabbed the attention of BMW of North America, who then reconsidered. Even though the result was a compromise (BMW NA wanted to keep MSRP down which resulted in a "neutered" motor), the E36 M3 and its sales figures proved that North America loved its M3s, and we've had every M3 generation with the same motor as Europe since then. The M3's history is full of many great moments, in racing, in engineering, etc. But for North America, another great moment to add to the M3's glorious history is that once upon a time, the enthusiast community wanted a car (M3), and the manufacturer (BMW) listened to its fans. I wonder, then, if the response is large enough here on Bimmerpost (one of the largest online BMW communities), that this will be enough to persuade BMW to reconsider and bring the 5er (incl. M5) Touring to the N. American market. Perhaps future generations will be told the story of a time when we [almost] didn't get the 5er/M5 Touring, but due to enthusiast demand, BMW reconsidered. We can dream right?
