couple things.
credit to making the car lighter even with 4wd. appears nothing is lost with electric steering nifty 4wd modes. again this is welcomed by many this car is slightly less fuel efficient than the f10 zf 8at is a step down. no matter how they spin it. even the wording of the press release kinda concede this. with all prior models the powertrain was always something new that many other cars without the m badge did not have (v10, SMG, dCT). steptronic reminds me of my old 328. The thing is Porshe has taken a gamble on powertrain development aka PDK and BMW too. by not investing in a new engine and transmission they are kinda hedging that it may not payoff. either that people will not care or what i really think, electric drivetrain. why invest millions on obsolete tech. the day approaches when we will be debating kilowatts vs dct/auto transmissions.

I don't know, should I be happy, or sad?
Happy that finally M kicked amg ass, Happy to assume that same technology will be applied to lighter M8,(and will kick r8's ass), Or sad, that instead of driving pleasure of e34&e39, we got acceleration and straight line speed of a supercar from a 5 meter saloon car, Is it gonna happen to M3/M4? Is it beginning of the end of manual gearbox? Is Auto+X-Drive future of the M? |

And I thought the GTS was a polarizing vehicle.
I like what I've seen thus far and look forward to a production model getting put through the paces to see how it shakes out. |

Just wanted a m car that actually sounded special. That's all...
But since they're using the same engine , I shouldn't keep my hopes up. Bmw is really behind when it comes down to sound compared to Audi rs7 and e63 amg s |

I like the ability to go from AWD to 2 wheel but there will still be a weight penalty with all the extra drivetrain components regardless.

Yes, with DSC on you get the normal AWD mode and when you switch to MDM stability control mode, you also get AWD Sport. They're claiming that the system feels enough like a RWD car that there wouldn't be any point to switch to full RWD mode unless you want to drift, do burnouts, etc. (or dyno test the car) and in all of those scenarios, you would probably have DSC fully off anyways. It would be cool to have full RWD in MDM mode as an option but oh well.
I'm cautiously optimistic based on what we know so far, this all seems like pretty great news in my opinion for the type of vehicle that the M5 is. I think a lot of the issues people have with traditional automatic transmissions come down to the way they are set up and programmed, I can't wait to drive this thing and see how it all comes together. The way they describe this M xDrive system reminds me a lot of the Nissan GTR, I'm sure the physical implementation will be different but the GTR uses a similar concept where the vehicle is essentially RWD unless it detects or predicts rear wheel spin when it engages a clutch to send power to the front axle. That car does not have an RWD-only mode but it does a good job of mimicking the feeling a RWD car, even kicking the tail out sideways before the front wheels start to pull the car if you give it a lot of throttle pre-apex in a corner. |

Yeah, was hoping for some sound improvements as well. A couple of the reviews eluded to the lack sound compared to the AMG.

Less Than 3.5 Seconds! A lot of F10,...and a few E60 M5s will be hitting the dealer lots soon!

Say what you want about AWD, but in today's day and age of monster HP and torque figures, it's becoming necessary. Today's M cars struggle to put the power down properly. Current M5 can get wheel spin even at HWY speeds and that's just ridiculous.

Very impressive still 0-100 MPH in less than 3,5s would have been a bit unrealistic though... |

So, that makes 3.49,..3.39...3.29,...all less than 3.5 secs! Still crazy fast for a large auto!
