It worked better at Mantorp than Sviestad. Maybe it had a hard time understanding some corners there? I don't know.
Garmin Catalyst - Trackday #2 Mantorp (FULL unedited session 1) Filming the Catalyst using Racechrono for reference. You can see what the Catalyst shows on it's screen, what the Catalyst says and also see some extra data recorded with Racechrono for reference/comparison to the Catalyst and the driving. Three warmup laps. Really cool cars on the track! Formula open wheelers, GT40, Ariel and some Porsche GT cars. I start pushing from lap 4. Still some time on the table when I finish the session to what I can do normally. More in session 2! You be the judge, do you think the Catalyst is giving me good coaching tips this trackday? |

So my wife just got me one of these for my birthday. Pretty stoked to try it out. It has all the tracks I normally do in Germany, as well as the ones back home in Michigan and Ohio. Looking forward to try it next year at Nurburgring and Spa.
Nice to see the camera is 1080p. Will complement my 720p GoPro and replace my iPhone based lap timer (which is only 2Hz) with a 10Hz GPS system. P.S. Some of the instructions seem to make sense (brake earlier, so you enter the corner with less speed, nail the apex, and can be on power earlier). But to be honest what is the difference between break earlier and brake longer? I will need to look through the manual to see what the instructions mean.

Doing more research on what it is, and what to expect. Found this video.

I've been a long time AIM customer since the Solo DL came out many years ago. And lately at my local member track, I had began to plateau my times at about 2:12-2:13's. After renting then buying a Garmin, I have dropped to mid 2:09's and now chasing 2:08's at the track after just a handful of weekends.
The Garmin is just that good. You have to be willing to experiment by trying new lines, push your braking points, change your turn ins, and be willing to entirely blow past corners while you test things out. But the device will reward you with simple to digest recommendations and helpful coaching real time while you're on track. Happy to answer any questions, but here's a good live recording from when a buddy and me drove the same car, with the Garmin turned on, and we recorded how the Garmin gave us different instruction based on our driving style.
