Great how-to, I completed it in 20 minutes this afternoon. No chance to drive yet, but I’ll leave any impressions once I do. Thanks to the OP!

How are you guys unscrewing the screws for the top of the airbox with it staying in the engine bay?? LOL An amendment should be made : The correct way to do this unscrew the one hose clamp and PULL the airbox OUT.. and undo it with a screwdriver , no angles or worry of dropping screws in the bay.. lol |

Just got this done and threw the BMC filters in. Mostly worth it just for the chance to work under the hood, even if it's nothing big. Nice turbo whine after install though.
Thanks for this! PS: I thought maybe mine didn't have the charcoal filters because I didn't see them at first. Took me like 3 minutes lololol

The initial post was in 2018 and is still helping newbies like me make their own changes like removing these charcoal filters. Going to do this soon on mine. Thanks four years later.

Thank you for the guide as this made putting in bmc drop-ins and removing the charcoal filter a breeze. Much appreciated!

In theory I understand the reasoning for the removal of the charcoal delete filters but I have yet to see any Dyno results displaying a positive gain From the charcoal delete removal.

I beg to differ the pre-notion behind this mod is to garner a higher volume of air therefore theoretically helping the car gain a little bit more HP along with a throatier sound. In the end, it’s a waste if you think you will acquire more HP.

These cars don't have blow off valves, they have "diverter" valves... which sux. I want my WHOOSH sound!

Regardless, did this yesterday, and the instructions were pretty much spot on. Charcoal filter removal and some BMC drop-ins do give a noticeable increase in intake sound. There are no MAF sensors on these cars, so no worries about using oiled filters if you want. |

Sounds like people are saying it’s improving throttle response, not a Hp increase. With a tune, probably would increase Hp a bit too.

Great write up. Did mine and took me around 30 minutes. I see no difference in intake sound or power gains. I think this might be beneficial at WOT.

This was really easy. If I had it to do again I wouldn't even pull out the flex hoses. Once you remoe the metal brace bolts, and loosen the box lid, it should tip up enough to easily access the filters. They pop out with a flat screwdriver.
