I can't speak on EU specs, but it appears you got a (detuned?) TU due to emissions regs. The TU2 still wasn't used in the X3, and not all TU are mild hybrid. I went with a 2021 because it avoided the hybrid change of the 2022 TU X3.

Not arguing when an engine came out - that doesn't matter, it's not when it goes into all vehicles.

The actual years I posted should still be accurate, but model/build year do sometimes mix parts when it's a change like the 2019-2020 MY.

A 10/2019 build has the possibility to be considered a 2020 MY with how late it was made.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the TU was mild hybrid. There are various systems implemented depending on production year and model, some hybrid some not.
Never heard of a 382 hp m40i without mild hybrid...

It depends on what you consider a mild hybrid. the 48V system wasn't implemented until MY2022. 2021 and earlier with coast mode and alternator regen aren't actual hybrid.

Ok so maybe on some markets there were 380 hp m40i without 48V additional boost, i just never came across such data. As seen from officoal brochure a few posts up the TU had only some 320 or 340 hp when introduced, and was later tuned to 360 (and not detuned - as the guy above stated).

I don't know if Google searching comes up with different data if you're in the EU vs US, but it's pretty easy to find the data I've referred to by searching "bmw b58". Wiki is not the end all be all source, but can be reliable and is corroborated by bimmers.com and bmwblog.com

Assuming yours is a B58TU, then my loose usage of detuned would be correct; if standard HP of the B58B30O1 (High output, in the 2020+ MY of the X3 M40i) is 382, but if only making 360 due to emissions then that is an adjustment to the tune of the engine.... it doesn't need to be controversial, it is what it is.

The article referenced earlier shows output for the B58B30M1 (Medium output, 335HP), which wasn't used in the X3 and invalidates your argument.

Actually from the M1 to O1 (TU mid --> high output), the main difference is indeed tuning of the engine... to get less power from the O1, you would have to adjust/detune, or whatever verbiage you want to use that's pretty much the same thing.

The 48V mild hybrid was added to the 2022 MY X3 M40i, also in an effort to placate emissions. It neither decreased nor increased power output numbers, but ironically is rated at 1 MPG less on the highway (26 instead of 27 US MPG). 2020-2021 were the only non-bastardized TU model years on the X3 M40i (personal opinion lol). The TU2 was never used in an X3 though.

This thread is becoming asinine and pointless, beating a dead horse.

Official/unofficial engine cover that says what engine you have.

Ok, thank you for all the info. Please just tell me one more thing: so there are actually 2019 models with 380 hp in the US? And they are without reverse alternator (adding some 30 hp) or other changes to TU described in the introductory brouchure?
And i dont agree this theme is kicking a horse, there is much confusion regarding this and users order wrong parts etc. Also the finest spare parts vendors have misleading search tools...so i ended up ordering wrong spark plugs (despite entering VIN in the search bar....)....
