I had bought Rhino Ramps some time ago and promptly returned them because I couldnt drive up them without the front bumper or side skirts hitting them.
I now know that I dont have to use ramps for the rear, as I though I did. I can just jack up the rear. My jack sucks. It doesnt lift too high, and because it wasnt locked in on the middle jack point, I didnt even try going all the way up. Main problem is my garage floor is made of asphalt, so the jack doesnt roll when the car as the car is going up, causing the car to slide off the jack. Using the Y jack stands on the plastic cups doesnt seem safe to me. I'm hesitant to use them that way. For the next oil change, Ill just have some of those awesome wood ramps |

Ninja turtle method: Hop down sewer( may need crow bar to pop manhole cover), have wife drive over said sewer and drain,

Or purchase an appropriate jack.

some tips:
1. you can buy the Volvo oil filter cap wrench, which is identical to the BMW model, on ebay for a lot less than the BMW model. I didn't like using the universal type wrench because there's not much space to turn it. 2. if you plan on doing this from now on, you might invest in the Fumoto oil drain valve. Super quick, no wrench, no mess, no burns. |

I have a pair of Craftsmen oil filter channel locks that work awesome also hold the rear upper spring perch in place when using the spanner to raise /lower the ride height with my KW coilovers. Those perches don't always hold in place and will just doing right along with the collar. The craftsmen channel lock oil filter wrench is a terrific addition to any tool collection. Highly recommend.
I have the Rhino Ramps and use a pair of 1x1x2" tall/thick cement pavers in front and have no clearance issues. I'm fairly low with M3 front bumper. The pavers also hold steady on my garage floor . I also use an old hallway 'runner' rug laid out perpendicular to the car for the ramps to sit on. Laid down some duct tape outlining the ramps so I don't have to jack around getting them square....just set then down and roll that bitch on up there. This may exist but what would really kick ass is some rhino style ramps with hydraulic jacks built in so you can drive the car up and then raise up the front another 6"+ for more clearance underneath. Particularly for extensive work down there like servicing the transmission or working in your exhaust, differential (xi owner here) etc. Maybe time to hit the drawing board?! |

Doing the oil change is pretty easy on our cars. I just drove up on some 2x4s, jacked it up, put jack stands under the car, and after that..it's basically just like any other car

I have trust issues when it comes to my car, if I was in your shoes I'd want to go out in the shop and watch them to make sure they lifted correctly, let the oil drain all the way, used correct oil change components, torqued everything down correctly, etc so in thr end I just do it myself every 5k.

Just changed oil in my ride... easiest oil change I've ever done!
I use two low profile jacks to raise the front of my car. They provide plenty of room to get under the engine to remove the drain plug. The jacks aren't cheap but well worth the money in the long run!! Makes changing wheels a quick and easy task too! |

I found their website but it looks like the valve has a 90º bend in it. Oil effectively drains completely from this?

The 90 degree elbow is an option for those whose drain plug is on the side of the pan. You can buy the valve on Amazon. Go to ECS first to verify the right part number.
