Talking Understanding the Cando Valve Controller: Features Explained

We all know the canDO Valve Controller is the most capable controller on the market, but a lot of people are still not 100% sure what actually makes it special and more importantly, which features you get with the valve controller itself versus what the canDO+ adds on.

I’ve seen quite a few comments saying things like “it’s basically the same as every other valve controller unless you add the canDO+ and now you’re over to $500.” That really is not accurate at all because most of the features that make the canDO Valve Controller special are already built into the controller itself.

Hopefully this thread explains the different features you can get with the canDO Valve Controller vs valve controller & canDO+
Features included with the canDO Valve controller only (canDO+ not needed):

• Mobile app control
Everything is controlled directly from the app, adjusting quick and easy without needing extra remotes or complicated setups.

• Quiet mode for quiet startup
You can have the valves stay closed during startup, so the car starts quietly, which is perfect for early mornings or avoiding annoying your neighbors.

• Full valve position control - That level of control is something no other controller offers.
You are not limited to the usual 25%, 50%, or 75% presets that most other controllers offer.
With canDO you can set:
1. OEM operation
2. Fully closed
3. Fully open
4. Any valve position you want (from 1% to 100%)
5. Offset Mode
6. Multiplier Mode

• Fixed %: you select any value and the valves will stay there, contrary to other controllers you are not limited to 25%, 50% and 75%.

• ECU + Offset Mode

Let’s say you choose +10. canDO monitors what valve position the ECU is commanding in real time, and simply adds 10 to that position.

So instead of replacing OEM logic completely, you’re enhancing it while still keeping the factory’s behavior natural.

• ECU × Multiplier Mode
Another extremely advanced feature.
Again, the canDO VC monitors the ECU valve position, and multiplies it by a value between 1 and 2.

Let’s say you choose 1.5, and the ECU is asking to open the valves 50%, the controller opens them to 75%.

This gives you a very smooth and OEM-like scaling of valve behavior instead of just forcing them open or closed.

• Valve GPS zones / automation
You can define zones for your valves, so they automatically change position based on your settings.

For example:
• Automatically keep valves closed in your neighborhood and at work
• Set an arbitrary position elsewhere
• Customize behavior based on driving habits

• Safety features

The canDO Controller also includes built-in safety features that
monitor operation and alert you if anything goes wrong.

These features alone already put the canDO VC way ahead of basically every other valve controller on the market.

Now, if you add the canDO+, in addition to what canDO+ itself adds in terms of features, you unlock even more Controller integration features:

• M1 / M2 button integration
You can store different valve settings for OEM, M1, and M2 modes.

For example:
OEM = stock operation
M1 = aggressive street setup
M2 = full open race setup

• M Sound integration
You can link M Sound behavior to the valves themselves.

For example:
OEM-style valve operation with quieter sound profiles
Fully open valves when M Sound is enabled

This lets the exhaust acoustics actually match the mode you’re driving in.

• iDrive button integration
You can map nearly any iDrive button using:
• Touch
• Press
• Long press

And use those actions to control the valves however you want.

At the end of the day, adding canDO+ is more about deep integration and convenience features. The actual canDO Valve Controller by itself is already incredibly advanced and honestly nothing else on the market really comes close.

The idea that it’s “just another valve controller” unless you buy the canDO+ is simply not true. Even standalone, the canDO offers features and flexibility that other controllers don’t even come close to having.

That is what makes it not only the best valve controller on the market, but honestly one of the best values too.
