f90 on track
hey guys,
anyone here take their f90 out on track days? my f80 track car is not looking like its going to be ready for the first few sessions of the year so thinking of taking my f90 out instead. Have a new set of P zeros on it I wont mind destroying but looking for brake pad options. Car is bone stock. |

I can't recommend enough everyone take their M5 out to the track at least once during their ownership. I promise you, no matter how hard you think you've driven it on public roads (which I don't recommend to begin with), guaranteed you're not seeing a fraction of what this machine is truly capable of.

There are at least a couple of active members here who track. One is screen name ShawnHayes. Search for his posts — he has tracked two F90 M5s and used stock brake pads, at least for a while.

I have tracked my recent M5s starting with my first F10. I agree with windtendo, you have to do it at least once to see what she's really capable of. I run with the BMW CCA doing HPDEs and have worked my way up to Advanced rating. I share that because I'm out there pushing the car for the most it'll give and enjoying every minute of it. My last HPDE I was passing everything except a 911 turbo and RS3, and a track prepped Camaro ZL1. It is highly dependent on the track you're running at, but at Limerock Park in CT I've only ever run on street tires and stock pads and they do just fine. I've also never had to replace the stock pads after a three year lease even with 3 or 4 track days thrown in the mix. Now Limerock is a smaller circuit, only 1.53 miles, and other than the main strait you're generally not breaking 100 mph. So if the track you'll be running at is bigger and faster (e.g., Watkins Glenn), then you may tear up pads and tires. I recall a member saying they toasted theirs doing a track day at Watkins.

I agree that after driving on the track there is no thrill in driving fast on the street. My f80 is track built, single turbo, Alcon bbk, bimmerworld gt more suspension, stripped out, harnesses ect on slicks @ 700 HP so short of 992 gtrs p cars there is not much faster on the track usually. It's getting new rod bearings, cams, ect so a bit behind getting it ready so the f90 is going to fill in.
So it sounds like stock pads hold up ok? Track I will be at is shorter so top speed maxes out at about 190 kph but lots of on off hard braking. |

Honestly after having a dedicated track car, the desire to take a 4500lb car with a ton of hp and standard seats on track is pretty low. Maybe just for a few laps for the hell of it
