What exactly are the differences between Efficient/Sport/Sport+ for the engine?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what EXACTLY the differences are between Efficient/Sport/Sport+ for the engine. I've seen other threads on here before about this subject, mentioning things like throttle mapping, turbo wastegate parameters, and engine cooling; but, I wanted to know if anyone has information from primary sources like tech manuals, scanning hidden codes/flags, or interviews with BMW M engineers as I am trying to get to the ground truth here.

Thank you!

I don’t have any technical references, but given your research you presumably learned that power difference is minimal — around 15 rwhp. https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1482628

Throttle sensitivity is the biggest change....that and you can take control the exhaust valve properly when tuned on BM3. Overall HP negligible as pbonsalb said.

Supposedly the car will go into a higher cooling mode (opening thermostat at a lower temp), you get burbles in exhaust if exhaust button turned on, and the engine holds rpm in the power band longer before shifting in conjunction with if you have the transmission controller turned up to level 2 or 3.
