19" Front, 20" Rear Stagger?

Hey folks,
Curious to see if anyone has tried a staggered size wheel between front and rear, specifically 19" front and 20" rear? Have a G83 as well and like the oem wheels there, thinking about using that set as a track/roadtrip setup with the 19/20 and running my 21's for daily.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Just choose your width and and aspect ratio to maintain the 1% front to rear diameter difference. You can have more ride comfort and a greater stagger.

That's what I'm planning, tires would be as follows to maintain the driving computer's sanity:

275/40/19
285/35/20

For those curious, I fit a set of G80 staggered wheels to the M5. They are currently wearing stock G80 sizes (275/30/19 & 285/30/20). Total diameter is less by 1" both front and rear, so sits .5" closer to the ground. Planning to use these temporarily and for the track, no spacers used. Also for those curious, these do clear the CCBs! Let me know what you think.

How is the ride with the 30 series? I have thought about changing to 30 series but don’t really want to compromise the ride.

It's actually not bad at all since the front has a 35 series. When I spend the rubber on these I'm going to try 40 series in the front and 35 in the back. Ride feels like stock imo with current setup...

Do you notice the shorter gearing effect from the smaller diameter?

Not sure exactly what I'd feel in all honesty, but car seems to feel the same as with the set of 21" wheels I had on it. I haven't ever driven the car with fully stock wheels, they've always been aftermarket...

Smaller diameter tires effectively shorten the final drive. This multiplies torque more, increases engine rpm at any given speed and could reduce fuel economy. Often, but not always, a shorter diff improves acceleration.

I'll keep an eye on driving dynamics.and post back. Will probably be running this set for a month or so, should have enough time to see if it brings this up.

Ordered some new rubber for the wheels, should have them in and mounted this weekend. Based upon tire selection available, had to go up a size to get a matching set of max summer tires.

285/40/19
295/35/20

Will post pics and feedback shortly!

Gotnthe new rubber mounted today. Car drives great and looks much better imo! No rubbing at full lock, I'm lowered on MP HAS and wheel differential is at oem specs. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks good and should ride nicely. I would consider that but with wider and lighter wheels.

[QUOTE=pbonsalb;31432378]Looks good and should ride nicely. I would consider that but with wider and lighter wheels.

So the set of 21 wheels I have I went super wide, 10.5 and 11.5 since they are custom built. They are light as well (signature forged), but I've found due to the width I went with, tires are a bit stretched and you end up with no wheel protection from the tires and they are more suseptible to bends.

I do hit the track and enjoy road trips, so figured these would be a good alternate set of strong (forged) wheels that don't break the bank and will stand up to poor roads and some abuse. Got a decent deal on these wheels so figured I couldn't go wrong.

I'll post feedback on tires and sizing once I get them on track.

Yes it seems like maximum width on wheels is pointless because you can fit much more rubber without interference in the wheel wells or fenders, even with ideal offsets. I was thinking just 1/2” wider — 10” and 11” but 3/4” more rubber — 20mm — if possible and at least in the rear. I lost my notes but I checked all the tire sizes to maintain the same or nearly same diameter and I could do something like 285/35/19 front and 305/30/20 rear. My logic was the the front needs to ride better than the rear so if I kept the front sidewall at the 35mm I have now with 20” wheels, I can go down to 30 in the rear and won’t notice a deterioration in ride.
