New tune with the Pure500 turbo?
Hello everyone,
I am not an expert in the field and I have a question for you. I already have a street tune in my car, but I would like to install the Pure500 turbo, do I have to do a custom tune again because of the new turbo? I looked at my options and I don't want to mess with the fueling system too much so I would only go with this turbo to give me more power. I already have the chargepipe, intercooler, downpipe and a coldair intake. Thanks for your time |

First off.. what car do you have? Pwg or ewg? Honestly depending on a few things and what fuel you wanna run will dictate if you need to do the fuel system. If you have a pwg car, okay it'll help even on stock fuel system but an ewg it's almost a waste to upgrade without doing a hpfp and e50 tune.. etc. So it just depends on what you have and your goals.

Your stock fuel system will support maximum 17-18 psi at redline running pure gasoline. So as mentioned before you might make more power on the stock turbo running lower boost but with eg E50.
Post a log of your street tune if possible. Datazap.me

Thank you guys,
BMW 335xi 2015(ewg), If I have already a tune, it's possible to put a OTS on it easily? I'm in Quebec so there is no E50 here, does I nees to think about Water Methanol injection in the charge pipe? On the site Bmwtuning.co it was said that stock fuel systeme can handle the Pure500 Turbo, it's only give you more power at high revolution 🤷*♂️ |

The custom tune is not mandatory, but you will leave power on the table if you don't get it.
You already invested in an upgraded turbo, so why not take advantage of it?

There is misinformation floating in conversations about the Pure500. I have been researching since last year. Hopefully i can correct that misinformation.
I am about to install a Pure500 on my 335ix N55 EWG. I’m taking the time to do it as a proper scientific study collecting both “before” and “after” data for comparison. Often “after” performance numbers are quoted with absolutely no idea of how much improvement there actually was. PURE500 OWNER FEEDBACK I have talked with at least a dozen Pure500 owners to obtain their feedback. It was surprisingly consistent. Across the board the two biggest comments were that the Pure500 has the same low end response as the stock turbo. This makes sense because it has the same low end 2500 rpm torque curve as stock. Most aftermarket turbos move the torque curve up towards 3500 rpm which makes them much less responsive especially in stop and go daily driving. Also everyone commented that there was an increase in power and that power held strongly towards redline. Stock horsepower tends to peak and then quickly drop off. I did not hear even one negative comment. Pure500 owners are a happy lot! N55 TURBO FACTS Please ignore misinformation that “the Pure500 is the same as a stock turbo” or that “the Pure500 is only a Stage1 turbo”, (as if the stock-like low end torque responsiveness is a bad thing). The N55 PWG stock turbo is the oldest & smallest. The N55 EWG stock turbo has higher flow. Typically when tuned the same way, a stock EWG turbo will produce roughly 30hp more than a stock PWG turbo. The Pure500 turbo has a higher flow than both the stock PWG and stock EWG turbos. Pure estimates up to 70hp more. I am hoping that my testing will shed some light on exactly how much more performance can be had with the Pure500 and under what fueling and tune configurations. THE PURE500 MARKET- TWO TYPES OF CUSTOMERS The Pure500 has been a huge sales success since its introduction. It’s a great combination of performance and price. And it has all new parts with nothing to exchange, no core charge. With its broad appeal, two distinct groups of customers have emerged for the Pure500. 93 OCTANE USERS The stock installed base of N55 turbos are wearing out now at a much higher rate and the Pure500 has emerged as the replacement turbo of choice. Installation is identical to stock, price is very reasonable and performance is higher. And again no core charge to deal with. Within this 93 Octane using group there are also guys who don’t have ethanol access, or who are constrained by local laws in not being able to easily upgrade their HPFP. FLEXFUEL USERS These are performance enthusiasts who are also lucky to live near local ethanol supply where government doesn’t interfere with HPFP upgrades. So E30, E50 or even full E85 are typically in the tank. Among this group are also weekend trackers who often run E50 and enjoy the Pure500’s responsive torque curve and the higher, more sustained horsepower curve. There were comments about how those Pure500 traits make it much easier to adapt to driving if you are visiting different tracks with different layouts every weekend. PURE500 DYNO TESTING So it’s my intention to design my testing for two different experiments. I’ll be doing separate “before” and “after” dyno testing for the Pure500 with both 93 and E85. E85 is to determine the maximum performance of the Pure500. So there will be four dyno sessions all together. TUNES TO BE TESTED I will be testing OTS Bootmod3 Stage2/2+ 93 Octane tunes both with the stock N55 EWG turbo and with the Pure500 turbo and 93 Octane in the tank. For E85 fuel in the tank, I’ll test the OTS Bootmod3 FlexFuel Stage2/2+ MultiMap tunes. I also hope to test versions of these tunes that have been enhanced for the Pure500. We’ll see how that goes when the time comes. UPGRADE SENSOR Note: During the Pure500 installation it’s a good idea to upgrade the stock pre-throttle MAP sensor from 2.5bar to 3.5bar. A VDO 3.5bar sensor is under $100 at FCP Euro. See photo for part number. There is a setting in the Bootmod3 configuration to tell it that the upgraded sensor is installed. The Pure500 has higher boost capacity than the stock turbo. So depending on the tune the boost levels can spike above the capacity of the 2.5bar sensor. The value just flatlines at the top during engine logs which leaves a tuner blind as to what really happened. TEST SCHEDULE LPFP upgrades and first dyno session of stock EWG turbo on 93 octane are being scheduled for a few weeks from now. This project should answer many outstanding questions. It will be fun! |
