Are these easy to remove and put back?
Apparently some Coke decided to leak out of a full cup even with the lid on it securely when I happened to smash the gas pedal. I didn’t notice the soda that had leaked until about 5-10 mins later, and by then, despite my best efforts, Coke had worked its way beneath the buttons. Now they’re sticky and don’t pop/click. Are these easy to remove and reinstall on your own?

I have not removed the surrounding piece on your model, but they are generally not difficult However the buttons are all one piece with the iDrive controller and it is one sealed unit not meant to be readily disassembled. So your problem may end up being bigger than you hope.

Here is what I would do if it were me. Go to most any auto parts store or even WalMart and buy a can of CRC QD Electronics Cleaner. Remove the controller and just flood the heck out of it with the spray and operate the switches while it's wet and then do it again. Heck, use the whole can. You can't use too much of that stuff. It evaporates quickly and wont hurt the plastic. I use it all the time.

I've had the same problem when I put down a coke cup that had the lid not properly secured and coke spilled all over the place.
Just take out the whole center console and unscrew the module with the sticky buttons to clean it (you have a wide gap on the side of the module to clean the buttons with a brush and interior cleaner), it's relatively easy to do Here is a DIY video how to take it out |
