windshield

My windshield needs to be replaced. Do I really need OEM? Hearing conflicting thoughts on this.

Had cracked windshield replaced by dealer w oem glass. Had to wait a month or 6 weeks. Glass was done but looked ok. Then a bro dozer cracked the windshield again 3 mo later… big deal to go oem? Eh… was more work than calling safelite

I personally would go OEM.

I've been wondering about this as well. I have a chip in my windshield so I eventually want to get it replaced but I've also read conflicting reports about having it done by BMW vs Safelite, so I'm on the fence with what I should do. Lucky for me the chip is directly in my line of sight so it's not at all distracting 🤣

I had mine replaced by a local glass shop with OEM glass and it seems fine. I am going to guess your dealership subs that work out too. I assume they would be slightly better than Safelite only because they might have done other similar BMWs more often and learned little tricks along the way. A Safelite guy may or may not have ever seen an F22/F87. It's still not rocket science.

Correct safelite will do OEM however it’s dependent on your insurance. I guess I’m going to go on oem and will report back on how it is….🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

My personal experience with Safelite over the years has been terrible, so I will never let them touch anything I own. First back in 2008 when I had my R32, they damaged both a pillars and fought me the entire time until they finally paid to have them repainted, then just 2 years ago, just when I had begun to forget that experience, they installed a windshield incorrectly on my wifes GTI and leaked, forcing them to do the job again....

About a month ago, I picked up a rock chip on the M2, and had the dealer do it. Part came in 3 days, and the job was flawless. I wouldn't put aftermarket glass in a car like the M2, but to each their own.
