I'm on my 3rd BMW with CCB's and the first 2 squealed non stop. The CS so far has only had a few slight squeals. Hoping they don't get worse like the other 2. My dad had an M5 with CCB and they were terrible as well.

Ccb's are meant to be driven, often, and aggressive. They also change characteristics, like a clutch on a manual car between different drivers.

I asked my service advisor for a quote for shits and giggles and he said $2,150 for 11 hours of labor. The installation manual quotes 5 hours but he said his shop foreman mentioned there is a “special DSC brake procedure that is not included in that estimate”.

That's ridiculous lol say it is 11 hours for labor which is still a bit high, I just ran a quote through my shop software and it came back at 11.4 but that has a lot of overlapping labor so its more like 10-10.5. shouldn't be more than 1100 lol. even at 16 that's 1600 dealerships just charge wayyy too much for labor. I'm guessing the special DSC brake procedure is either bleeding the brakes or coding the car for the brakes which takes like 5 minutes and we don't even charge for that, and bleeding the brakes is already included in the labor for both the master cyl and brake booster (hence the labor overlaps I was talking about)

Street use for 3750 miles now, no squeak. At all. Four trackdays now at VIR. 18 minimum 20 minute sessions (many 30 minute, and one 40 minute). No squeak. At all. The brake dust is just about as bad as the steels from my 2018 M5. The braking is ...different.... Better, but also different. There's still some fade, but that may be because of the fluid that BMW has put in. Braking from 161 on the back straight, and 150'ish on the front has definite fade. The in between bits, the little braking zones, much better braking. Much. So, sir, I respectfully disagree with your proposal that these CCB's squeak terribly. I'm with the rest of the crew. I was surprised. My aftermarket CCB's for the GT-R from AP racing marketed through Stillen were terribly noisy (due to clank from the McLaren springs). The Corvette ZR-1 conversion for the GT-R was also noisy (but again, it wasn't brake squeal, but clank from hardware). I don't know why you're getting squeal. I'm sorry about that though. Video? Audio? Shawn |

So here's a different spin on this topic. I spoke with my Stealership this past summer about doing the conversion and asked for a quote. When the parts and labor was close to eclipsing $30k, I told them to forget it. I had been asking since I had my 2018 about ceramic pads but got nada. I just happened to reach out to r33_RGSport back in January (desperate at this point LOL) if there had been any movement on this in the industry. Well as luck would have it, Ben had actually contacted a Japanese company a while back about doing R&D for him in creating some pads. He had to fund it himself but because of this there is now an option.
Front: https://www.rgsportshop.com/index.ph...roduct_id=2242 Rear: https://www.rgsportshop.com/index.ph...roduct_id=2243 My only reason for wanting CCBs is because I simply can't stand the brake dust anymore. I do not track my car, so I don't need that level of performance. I tried the ACG/Porterfield carbon kevlar pads on my 2018 F90 and after 1000 miles the brake dust was just as bad as the OEM and the squealing also came back. I had similar issues on my CTSVs when I had them, and I always switched out the pads with ceramics, problem solved. So, my pads showed up last week, my new rotors showed up today, and on Friday it all goes on the car!!! Last edited by ambletx; 04-13-2022 at 10:45 PM.. |

I also sold a few sets to local F90 M5 customers too and they've been happy.

PS. If you decide to go this route and go with new rotors, I would suggest getting them from https://www.getbmwparts.com/. Out the door price was $1550'ish shipped!! Both dealerships in town were $2500+ for all 4 corners. The UPS guy must have hated me as the box was HEAVY AF!!! It was kind of humorous though watching him carry it to the door on my ring camera.

I have 30k miles on my 2018 M5 with CCBs. Pads look like they've lost minimal thickness and rotors look new. Light squeaking only noticeable with windows down at low speed, and after not washing or braking hard for a few weeks. The absence of dust phenomenal.

I really appreciate all the responses! Delighted that the kit arrived at my shop today - I'll post an update once installation is complete with any issues/nuances.

I was considering doing something like this but with the M2C steel brake calipers with different pad/rotor set. Need to confirm if the M5 CCB calipers are the same as the M2 CCB calipers. Mostly wanting to do it from an OEM+ aesthetic point, it'll fill out the wheels nicer and look better than the blue calipers.
Would the master cylinder and coding still be needed in this case? Is that due to the overall larger caliper setup?

Ok, so I have about 2500 miles on these pads (IS1500) and am still VERY impressed. Little to no brake dust and ZERO noises when rolling or braking. Here are some pics from yesterday after 263 miles or so of driving since they were cleaned.

Was there any noticeable difference in initial bite or overall braking performance?

I would say that they are WAY more grabby than the stock pads, and I mean A LOT. This is more noticeable at lower speeds where what used to bring the car to a gradual stop, now brings it down quick. I just had to re-learn how much pressure to put on the brake pedal and all is well now. I did a hard stop from 130 and felt as if I was going to go through the front windshield. Having said that, I can't comment on prolonged brake usage as you would get in running a DE or circuit.
