I had my oil change service on Thursday. When I started my car to drive to the dealership I immediately got the low coolant warning. I took my other car to Auto Zone and got a bottle of 50/50 additive to water mix. When I opened my coolant caps, both reservoirs were below the minimum mark. I added coolant and the warning went away. Drove directly to the dealer without problem. The dealer checked my coolant system for leaks and said they found none. So I think it just might have been low and that's it.

What kind did you put in. I know they can sometimes be finicky about which is put in.

I think the brand was Peak. It said for Euro cars and said for all BMW on it. It was a 50/50 mix water to additive. Dealer told me to use 50/50 when I called and asked what kind.

I’m an overly cautious sucker, I used the BMW fluid.

Just happened to me last week for the first time in my 13 months of ownership. Topped it off, seems like that’ll be the end of it.

Owned my 2020 for less than a full year and coolant was low both times I’ve checked (one of those times today). Dealer tops it off for free and says it’s typical. I’ve never had a low coolant warning message, but I’m in the habit of checking every 6mos after reading about the issue on this forum.

Have a brand new 2021 M5c with 1600 miles on it and I've had the low coolant warning twice now. It's not low. Going to top off anyway and see what happens but do plan to take mine back in next week.

Yesterday , while the first start of the day (so engine cold) , I immediately got a warning message saying cooling fluent was low.

I added some fluent , for the level to be between MIN and MAX , as recommended in the iDrive , and the message never appeared again on my way back home over 500km (350 miles).

My car has 22 000km (13 670 miles).
I took an appointment for service next week , better do it know than later (iDrive says service is requested in 3800km).

Thanks for your feedback !
Cars run hot just keep an eye on coolent. Since there's no sensor for that

Main tank has a level sensor. Secondary tank for intercooler does not.

Ugh, Keep meaning to check mine. Having the recall done next week and will have them check it then. Thanks for the reminder.

I get the feeling that the reservoir level sensor is very sensitive to temperature fluctuations, as I've had to top off my 2018 F90 twice with a very small amount of 50/50 coolant, both in wintertime. I've never seen any evidence of leaking. I'm just glad the F90 doesn't use oil like the F10 did.

did you just use standard 50/50 from the auto parts store?

Yeah, I used Peak brand that's approved for BMW/Merc/etc. It's blue and premixed. I'm sure you could get a jug of OEM coolant at your dealership, but not sure if it's premixed 50:50 with distilled water or not, and will probably be wildly overpriced.

Just topped mine off for the first time at 9900 miles/15,930 kms. Both reservoirs were a bit low. I just happened to have a gallon of unopened BMW coolant and gallons of purified water in my garage. Warning code is gone now.

Just had dealer check while in for the vent recall and no fluid needed the foreman said. Asked why I asked and if I got a low fluid warning etc. love having to explain "the forum told me to did it"

Haha, so add that to your data point. Right around 7500 mi
