Long drive
Just took my 2018 M5 on a 770 mile trip. One way on Sunday, 11 hours straight. Needed two gas stops since I started with 3/4. Got around 24.5 mpg which is pretty good considering the speeds (virtually all interstate). Arrived tired from the long day but with no saddle fatigue.
Returned yesterday (Fri) and today, staying overnight with family in NC. Again pretty good mileage for the speeds, comfortable and not fatiguing on a long drive. I went right to the clinic to get a COVID test which is required for work Monday (negative). Gas was cheap - less than $2.50 for Shell premium. Car was loaded with luggage and wife (as if I needed to mention both since they travel together). I’m pleased because drives like this are the reason I bought this car (GT Cruiser). Hoping to go coast-to-coast next year. Car now has 6k miles on it. |

Awesome! I'm planning a trip from Atlanta to New Orleans in a couple of months to visit my Dad. Nice to know that it get good mileage on long distances. I'm only averaging 12 miles around the city but I do drive it hard 24/7. 😅

Damn efficient powertrain - I exceeded 856km (531 miles) calculated per tank on the return leg of a long round trip run to Toronto. It was an intentionally restrained drive to see what winter mileage I could get. 94 octane - ambient Temps averaged 8 to 4 C ( 49 to 39 F), no significant wind, elevation would have be ranged around 300 and 650 ft above sea level. Flat as a pancake this part of Ontario. Cruise set at 115km/h (71.5 mph) uninterrupted highway for 380 km both ways. Also, that was with winter tires (Pilot Alpin PA4)! Hardest part was not opening up the throttle for 8 hours.

Can you tell me if the Pilot Alpin 4 winter tires are on your original wheels or on a winter set and so a different size? No one seems to have winter tires that have the same load rating as oem.
As for the OP, I did a 200 mile round trip recently and I did have a little saddle fatigue. The thigh bolster, which I keep extended, is a bit hard and needs breaking in. |

My only complaint on the long drives is that the car seems to think it needs to update the Nav while I’m on the way, and usually prefers a moment when I need the map. A little black screen and a panic moment and all is right with the world again. This probably happens to me because I rarely drive the car except on long drives so there is no update opportunity around town.

Alpin 4 on the 20” OEM rims. Staggered same as OEM. One bidirectional other asymmetric. Handled ice and snow beautifully.
