I'm Back in the ///M Family (sold the R8)...

Some of you may remember that I decided to not take delivery of the 2020 M5 Comp that I ordered and instead opted for a 2020 X3M Comp (long story). I had the X3M Comp for about a month (didn't like it) before I decided I wanted to buy my first exotic supercar, the R8 V10 Plus. I thoroughly enjoyed the R8 and had a hard time deciding to part with it. However, due to the pandemic, declining markets and exotic car values, I didn't want to be stuck with the car and lose upwards of 30-40% on the value.

So, I decided to go back to my original plan of getting a 2020 M5 Comp and, lo and behold, the M5 Comp I ordered originally back in Dec of last year was still sitting on the lot! I spec'd it nicely with alpine white, Silverstone extended interior, executive package, and M carbon blades, M Pro spoiler, and M rear diffuser.

I called up my M sales guy and said what deal can you give me on the M5 that I ordered and passed on originally? He said I got you!

MSRP: $119,650
Discount off MSRP: 13%
Loyalty: $2000

That sounds like an expensive go around.
How much did the X3M/R8 exercise cost you?

Between the X3M and R8 swap, I've lost about $17-20k.

I drove an R8 V10 Plus from Munich to Lake Garda, IT and through the Alps over 4 days a couple a years ago. Absolutely awesome car. I would totally want to have one, except for the impracticality of it. Nowhere to put the golf clubs.

You must live in a State where they give you sales tax credit on your trade in.

Yea, Sam has been my finance person for both the X3M Comp and the M5 Comp. He called me crazy for switching vehicles three times in 3 months 😔. I have to say I'm blessed for being able to take the financial loss associated with these swaps and still end up in the M5 Comp. I am definitely GOOD for the next three years, lol.

I think because it's an SUV vs a sedan or coupe. My wife has an SUV and I don't need one. It's a great performer for its segment, but the M5 feels better to me.

Yes, I'm in MD. Due to the sales tax credit, I only paid $650 in taxes on the M5.

R8 is fucking amazing. I still miss it and will for some time. I can see me getting another one in 3-4 years time depending on what Audi does for the next gen version with hybrid/electrification.
