2019 M5 or 2020 740i....which would you choose (subjective, I know)
I know this differs depending on the person but I've narrowed my choice down to a 19 M5 or 2020 740 (M-Sport). Both are alpine white with extended shadow line and black wheels. Price per month is the same.
What's your thoughts on these two? I understand they are two completely different cars. I have a 18 M550 now. It kind of bums me the M5 would have the old IDrive and won't have the live cockpit (the 7 has both new things). It also has carbon front splitters that I don't love and I assume they have beta link attaching them so they aren't coming off. I don't know speed is as huge to me as it used to be....plus I've heard the 740s aren't exactly slow, either (although they certainly won't be mistaken for M cars). Deals are better great on 740s right now which is why I'm not looking at 750s. Pic of 740 attached....looks pretty damn good.

If speed isn't #1 to you, the 740 would be better for sure. I'd take a S560 over it though...

I would go with the 7 series. It is perfectly suited for daily driving duties with comfort. And if you need something sporty, I would get a second car more suited for your needs.
Lastly, I really like iDrive 7 and would prioritize this for a daily driver. I think technology is very important in today's car ownership. It adds to the entire experience and I would rather have the latest in a vehicle in this segment.

You're comparing apples to oranges. I personally would be in the M5 today if I didn't have two babies in rear facing car seats. I tried so hard to fit them. Haha
I am driving a 750i now and have had a 740i M 2020 Loaner for about a month now. Of course I prefer the 750i over the 740i. You are correct that the 740i is a quick car. It does move. I'm not wild about the digital cockpit, i do prefer the M5s style. Having said that, if you don't speed and don't need the bad ass handling of the M5, id go with the 740i m sport. I personally enjoy going 0-60 in under 3 seconds and taking a 90mph corner without hesitation. Hahaha

First of all it's great to have these options available to you. Second it's all about personal preference. Taking the power difference out of the equation the handling difference is night and day. If you care about the handling don't even consider the 740 or 750. I had an E38 2001 shorty and went to a 2013 750. While the power was awesome the handling was such a let down. My 2019 F90 has restored my love of driving and confidence in BMW.

IMO, It's a wrong comparison. Both are totally different cars and serve different purpose. I wasted 2 yrs of my life driving a Panamera 4 base, sure it was luxurious but wasn't for me. I like handling and performance. My friend is moving from a 740i to a M550i with infants. He's in the same boat, got bored of 740 and can't wait to get into 550i with updated 523 HP engine.

My first mod search for the 750i was suspension. Nothing for this car.

Just went over the thread and I think if the author had his last message right under the first one, and no other members would comment, this thread would still make full sense...
I am in 2019 50i X5 now (after 2015 S63 w222, warranty expired so I sold it, G63 before that, M5C F10 before that), but really wanted the M5 Comp a year ago when I was at the dealership "picking up" that M5C until I saw $2,180/m tag, so I had to take the X5. It's an OK car with 98% of options available to it but I regret this decision every single time I touch the door handle to unlock the car. ! |

I have both vehicles. The 740 is a boat. The M5 is a sports sedan. I drive the 740 substantially more miles due to interior space, but the M5 is much more fun to drive.

M5 is still plenty big and very comfortable. it's as big as a regular wheelbase 7 series used to be only a decade ago. when you add in the fun factor, it's a no brainer. I actually drove a 2020 750 and thought about it for a day, but then I realized as much as I'd like to believe I would be happy in it, I like driving fast and I would never be as happy.

I’ve had a couple of 740d I the past. Last edition to be fair. My last car was an M5 F10 and I’ve just bought an M5 F90 Comp. I’d say if you don’t need the extra space in the 7 go for the M5. I worried when I changed that I’d miss the space but got to say both M5s that I’ve had have so far been my favourite cars by a long shot. M5 all day for me.

If not, keep your M550 and invest the extra money you would have burned anyway into something adventurous. The 740 is very boring and you will lose money twice when you’re looking to unload it next year. |
