Considering vinyl wrap for my car...any negatives to doing so?
I've been considering wrapping my DG M5 Comp in a vinyl wrap. There are several colors I've seen that I like. Curious if there are any drawbacks/negative items I should be aware of regarding vinyl wraps.
How do they hold up? For someone that has a vinyl wrap do they cut/chip easy from road debris?

I have never done it sense I replace mine cars every 6-9 months but, If I would do it I would choose LIQUID SPRAY
The wrap is sprayed on as a liquid and sets as a rubbery plastic layer with no edges, no creases and no bubbles. Whist providing a durable finish, this process is completely reversible.

I wrapped a GT3 I owned....Yeah it looked cool, but the mistake I was I didn't install clear PPF over it.
Vinyl is moderately durable for what it is, but it's still nerve racking. You get light swirls in it over time. Then you have to wax it or heat it...which is a delicate operation. So after a few months I installed clear PPF and it was life changing lol...(I'm very neurotic with my cars) It's so much more durable and time saving. I could literally drive the car 200 miles, and if wasn't driven in rain...I could soak it with soap foam, hose off, blow off....vinyl spray detailer...done!

I have mine wrapped, love it! Got ceramic coat put on top of it. Easy to maintain, infinite options as to style, and I love knowing I can change it out whenever I want, and at the end of the day I can pull it off and have 100% virgin paint underneath.

I ceramic coated my vinyl too and it only makes it a little easier to clean, but not truly impervious to swirls or minor scratches. Ceramic coating is more helpful to clear coat, not vinyl. It's not a true protective barrier, like PPF is. I ceramic coated my M5, and I'm happy. It preserves the shine and helps with cleaning. But like I said, PPF over the vinyl, or over your paint is the game changer. I miss it because after driving it and it getting dusty, I'd soak it with soap foam, hose, blow off, dry...done. The wheels would take the longest to clean. The car it's self took ten minutes or less. Plus, it's protected and I'm not worried with putting light swirls in it. Prior to PPF on the GT3 and just vinyl was very nerve racking for me. Yes it's a considerable amount more, but please trust me, do it right, or don't do it. And Stealth(matte) vinyl looks good IMO. Did it on my 458 and everything I said applies to it.

I wrapped my car and the wrap did not hold up in the winter. I daily my car and it was freaking cold and snowy in chicago this last year. Driving at highway speeds with salt flying up chipped the wrap pretty bad on the front end. I re-wrapped in the spring and had the front end then covered with ppf. Now it is awesome. I didn't ppf the whole car, just the front end where the real abuse comes. If you don't drive much in the snow or ice, shouldn't be a big problem for you.

Yes if u wrap your car you need to at least put ppf over the front wrap....wrap wont handle stone chips just like paint wont either....stick with 3M or Avery brand and it will look good
