Looking for some input on a used 2018 M5 possible purchase.

Let me first say I'm looking just for some opinions here. I'm not biased towards either car I will be asking about.

Here it is: I'm looking at a 2018 M5 with 3500 miles on it from a dealer it was purchased from. This dealer and the guy are friends and he gets in and out of cars very often. The MSRP was $120,650 they won't seem to move beyond 99K for the car.

Car #2
2018 E 63S 7500 miles this car had an MSRP of 130K they want 98K but I know they want to move this car. It's being sold from a MB dealership but came from a dealer hundreds of miles away.

I have not driven either one. I have owned both brands and love both but after reading so much about both cars and watching so many you tube vids on each car I'm very confused on these two cars.

I will also throw in the fact that maybe a new one (BMW) may be the better way to go but don't think they are discounting them to where I would like to be money wise.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

The only issue I may have is I purchased a 2019 Audi Q8 in Dec and I'm just not feeling it ( My First SUV) My wife drive's a 2019 X5 so don't really need two suv's. I think it was a big mistake with the Q8 nice vehicle but not me.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Please add some input. I would really appreciate your advice.

I really want to hear your input. I will say I do love the M5 but Both cars seem like killer cars. I'm leaning towards the M5 but is used the way to go at 99 or even 97K What are new M5 with MSRP's of 120 to 125K going for. I'm in NJ

I will be trading my Q8 That was an 80K car.

Which ever car you pick, you are looking at a big loss on the Q8. If you absolutely have to get out, go with whoever gives the better overall deal.

Thanks for the reply. I know I would take a loss just don't know how much. Do I have to get out NO, BUT I can't see driving the Q8 for two or three more years. Then again if they say 60K that would make me stay put.

Since you asked for input...I don't think the numbers will ever work in your favor on Q8. If it is a lease maybe consider swap a lease? It's an attractive car that should go quickly.

What are the negatives on this other than power? That thing looks awesome. I've been wanting to go test drive one since they launched.

I think you will find Vic55's insight/review insightful if you haven't read it yet. He had a e63 and sold it for a m5. He and quickburn are two people on this forum that come to mind that have owned both cars with their current cars being m5's - I'm sure there are others.
Since you won't be leasing either car, it does take that component out of it as the lease on an AMG is abysmal, with a 2018 m5 including discount being much more favorable (relatively).
I am also in NJ and I did shop both cars as well as the Panamera 4s. I found the e63 to be a harsh ride and I personally prefer the looks of the m5 over the e63. I love the exhaust of an AMG which sounds much better than the m5 but if you care about it, it can be improved.
You can't really go wrong with either car. They are pretty evenly matched with upgrades plentiful for both. It just boils down to your needs and what you are looking for in a super sedan.
I personally have owned a variety of cars and I usually get bored/tired or feel the urge to switch cars very quickly. I can say the m5 is the one car that I haven't had that urge to the point of doing something about it. I have considered jumping ship to the new Panamera GTS but I still haven't had the urge to visit the dealership.

Spend a couple $k and mod the Q8 instead?

That might hold you over until you aren't so negative in the Q8

Q8 looks sweet.

You might want to get yourself behind the wheel of both the AMG and the M5 to give you a better idea.

I ordered a 2019 non-Competition in early October which was delivered on December 1st. I got 5k off plus what nets out to another 4k off from a 5k lease credit. 9k off on a $112,700 sticker got me to $103,700. Deals are probably even better now. Thus, I'd go new unless you're dying for the additional options that these 2 cars have.

Thanks for all the input. What I don't care for in the Q8 is the power and coming from an RS7 it just is boring as far as power goes.

I can't mod power with a void in the warranty. The tech in the car is GREAT but I miss the power and I now see we don't need two Suv's in one household. I'm in my mid 60's so with the 2019 X5 wife's car the Q8 is just overkill. I will say the X5 has a much better HUD and seats than my Q8. I like the look of my Q8 better but overall the X5 is a great Suv.

I've owned other amg products and also an M3 back in the 2004 era both were great. I'm leaning to the M5 because I think it's overall the better car. I just need to see what kind of numbers they throw at me.

I know they will try to rape me and I won't let them do that. I'm not that hungry for the M5 that I will lose that much. My Q8 has only 400 miles on it. Will have to see how things shake out.

Tell us more about the seats. That's disappointing given it is a flagship model.
