BMW is not done with Diesels. The new X5 and X7 are available with Diesels, but not for the US market as of right now.
X7 xDrive 30d and X7 M50d are availalbe for international markets. Note the v8 gasoline is N/A for the European market. X5 is also available in 30d and M50d. |

But there is an EU backlash against diesels that is spreading to other countries as well. It is pure insanity in my opinion, given the efficiency and cleanliness of the new generation of Diesel engines. I sincerely hope that you are right and we continue to have a diesel option to choose from in the US.

In my 335i sedans I averaged 14mpg...23mpg in the 335d over 3 yrs of driving. My i3 doesnt get below 100mpge even at 80mph and hammering it from every intersection!

Also note that BMW only had 3 models that had not completed WLTP emissions testing by the deadline of SEpt 1, significantly outperforming other European car companies. So BMW is making "relatively" clean engines that also deliver performance. Regrading Europe: There is backlash against Diesel and some european cities want to ban it, BUT diesel cars that comply with latest Euro 6 standards (basically model year 2016+) are good for now. They are talking banning Diesels on older emissions standards which has sent resale value plumetting for Diesels and there has been a mix shift away from Diesel in Europe. |

I personally would never buy a Tesla because of its really cheap interior materials. For that price I don't want to feel like I'm driving a Toyota/Lexus. If an all electric car is the goal and you can look past the cheap interior then the Tesla is a good fit.

I was about to say only 25mpg? But then I saw it is a M5. I can get 32mpg at 65mph on the high way, right now i have about 350 miles with 40 to empty on my tank.

Amazing! A lot better than the 2010 X5 4.8 sport package I had. I was happy to get 14 mpg on the highway. Wonder If tires will require require replacing every 15,000 miles like the 20 inch 305 runflats did?

Fuel Efficiency
Fuel efficiency for family vehicles is about much more than cost. Sleeping children tend to wake when vehicles stop. Fueling also tends to set off a cycle of bathroom breaks and play that can take 20 mins. This is the primary reason I prefer diesels. That and the low end power
