M is now for money not performance unfortunately...... I will wait for a year or two before I get my M235 so the bugs and growing pains will be worked out and hopefully all the options will be available.

I'd venture to guess that 95% of BMW drivers don't need an LSD. Most M235i drivers won't need it. Our cars are competent, but not outstanding track cars. To really have our cars ready for the track you need to upgrade so much. For most it's not worth it. And even after modifications, your still driving a 3,400-3,600 pound car. These are amazing daily drivers and road trip cars. If you only track once or twice a year, and are not trying to be competitive, a stock M235i will do fine without an LSD.
I was certain i'd order an M235i with the LSD, but after giving it a lot of thought, I just don't think it will add that much to my enjoyment. If they are a screaming deal...under $2,000, I might reconsider, but otherwise. I just don't see the bang for the buck. The four years i've had my 335 I've tracked it on average once or twice a year. It's fun, but it's also a $50,000 car, so i'm not ready to push this car so close to the limit that I might put it into a wall...or really need an LSD. I bought a used S2000 for that. 9k RPM redline, LSD, 2,700 pounds, and one the greatest gearboxes you can get . much more suited for serious track use...and lousy daily driver. |
