Press and hold the two outside buttons on the Homelink® system until the LED starts to blink, release buttons. While the LED on the garage door opener is blinking, return to the vehicle and press the pre-programmed Homelink® button 4 times. (Or until the garage door operates).

Page 253 of the manual. It's that thick book that came in the glovebox of your car.

I hate it too. I have to do the sequence that requires you to climb a ladder up to the control box and push a learn button.

Different Homelink / Sommer Direct Drive instructions
I've seen about 4 different BMW Homelink procedures for programming, with different folks saying each worked for them. I presume it may depend on the BMW model and year, and the type of garage door equipment.
For my 2019 M5, and a Sommer Direct Drive garage door opener with a learn button, this is the one that worked for me: Cheers, B B |

I'm trying to program my G30. RTFM'd and followed the instructions...realized that the buttons on the mirror don't function after 30 seconds or so if you don't turn the car on, but come up again if you open and shut the door a couple times (I didn't want to run the engine in the garage). Anyway, after a few tries I managed to get one button to open/close the garage door.
Now I want to program the second button to toggle my garage door opener light on/off. My GDO has a "learn remote for light" button that I've used to program the normal Liftmaster remotes with no issue, so I repeated the steps for the 2nd button on the car (learning the remote frequency, etc.), and then used the "learn remote for light" button on my opener to try to program it. Must have tried at least 8 or 9 times but it won't learn the secondary command. Any ideas? |

That doesn't change the fact that I would like to have a physical button in my car perform a certain function (turning the light on or off). |

This was super simple:
Press and hold the two outer buttons at the same time until the light starts flashing green rapidly. Then grab your garage remote and press and hold the button you want to program and the garage button at the same time until the green light starts flashing rapidly. If you have a rolling code opener, get out of the car and press that button, then go into the car and press the button that you chose to program, then press it again and hold for three seconds, and press it again for 3 seconds and your garage door should go down and be programmed. |
