I didn't take a video of it, but took some pictures. I'm pretty handy, but the mirror removal scared me. I didn't want to break it which is why I had the tech do it. It's probably a 20 minute job if you get someone that knows what they're doing. Best of luck! What are you going with? |

Was thinking about some carbon caps, and just wanted an insight before I got stuck in. Will probably do this myself, as I enjoy the challenge, will post some photos of the cracked glass afterwards , thanks again, Simon Last edited by Simon H; 05-26-2020 at 10:47 AM.. |

Yeah tried this too when I had my M550 still (and had M5 at same time). I was going to change the mirror caps on my M5 but didn't what that to be the guinea pig so I tried just taking off the M550 ones....I cracked both caps. As a result, didn't even attempt on F90. Was harder than it seemed.

Saw a video on a G30. Guy just tilted the mirror and used a long flat blade to pop the tabs and it came right off for him. I’m gonna give that a try. If not the mirror just pops off like most bmws. Just a bit of pressure on the compression ring. It’s actually much simpler than the X5 arena. That has like 8 tiny screws and snaps that love to break under any pressure.

Disconnect the turn signal plug, and use T10 to unscrew the 2 screws. I slid the signal slightly toward the plug part and Separated the other end from the guide. Then applied pressure from the outside of the mirror on the turn signal itself to separate it from the two tabs inside and then just pulled it out. Easy peasy.

It was the wife's GTI. I appreciate your input and I am not looking for anything. Just sharing my experience removing a mirror.
