A bit more growl?

Have a base and debating on a little mod for more low end growl. Not really into increasing burps and slurps. Also, not looking to mess with warranty or throw codes.

Deleted resonator?
Downpipe? Which ?
CAI?

Any sound samples greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance…

For “a bit more growl” delete the resonator with an X pipe. Adding the Comp resonator is not enough. X pipe for your goals.

So I am in California and we have to pass smog at times. Any of these affect that? Also, should expect smell in cabin. Thanks….

Anyone have a sound clip by chance?

If you are at risk of a visual inspection and a sniffer test and your primary interest is more noise rather than more power, buy a rear exhaust to give the more powerful sound.

Get the MPE and always switch off the exhaust button, you get more sound throughout the rev range.

The MPE doesn't have valves?

The exhaust button doesn't do anything. Trust me, I have one and it sounds the same with the button pressed or not.

Visually yes if they see it. I don't believe they use a sniffer test only obd2 so that wont be an issue. If they do sniffer it may be an issue.

Not sure if a rear exhaust needs to be cali approved or not.

Correct MPE does not have valves but exhaust button totally cuts out burbles and run on pops. Also changes fake exhaust noise profile. Makes a large difference in my 22M5C

OP asked for a bit more growl so I recommended MPE. The buttons is like a switch for burbles and pops in sport+ mode, not that it does nothing. Also on LCI the ASD cannot be coded off completely, so it also switches on and off ASD.

Why not just unplug the exhaust valve connections when they are open? This is probably the cheapest mod for this car (read free). Its was one of the first things I did on my 2018 M5 and the very first thing I did on my 2021 Comp. The dealer hadn't even given me both sets of keys yet as I asked him for a screw driver.

P.S. No CELs, no codes, and doubtful that Kalifornia inspectors will even notice it or know that they are open.
