CTS intercooler trouble
If anyone could please help. I bought a CTS intercooler. Having a hard time trying to fit it. It is not stepped, nor does it have the easy connect. No screws came with the intercooler and it is significantly heavier than the stock intercooler. Thinking about returning it. Seems like a pain in the rear. It came with an L pipe, two attachments, and clamps.
Furthermore, I did cut the necessary pieces, but having a hard time with the charge pipe fitment with the L pipe. Also, as I stated prior, the stock intercooler screws don't seem like they would hold this new intercooler past a speed bump.. Any help is much appreciated. |

Get some longer thicker screws. But not much, it still screws into plastic. You dont want to break it. The silicone hoses hold most of the weight. My huge heavy vrsf hangs with no issues. I did add bigger screws.
Put your coupler on cp and attach to j pipe. Put hose on other side of j pipe and jack the ic up onto the hoses. If you line up correctly only a little fiddling with the hose ends is needed. I rub a little wd40 on the ic ends and they usually just pop in |

Petro135- Ah, okay. Thank you for explaining it further. I will go to an auto part store to hopefully find some longer and bigger screws. I was looking online and noticed there is intercooler kits that come with screw studs and nuts. I was hoping to find just those, but no luck.
Mike@x-ph.com- I might just do that, if I can't make progress today. Thanks |

Did you remove the outlet flex clamp? That's most of the restriction anyway. If you didn't it's held on with a band clamp and just dremel the band to remove, then fit silicone directly to the outlet.
I'd get some huge zip ties, make sure the bumper is off and hang the IC from them, then fiddle all the piping together lubed up as mentioned above until it all fits nice nice together. The J pipe on the cold side is a bitch and a half on the 1er and I recommend removing your charge pipe to install that.
