Sutphin transmission tune - feedback

I've used and currently use XHP Stg 3 on three different Bimmers and have been generally happy. The Sutphin custom tune is getting some great reviews and i've been in a M240xi with it and it was definitely smoother then stage 3 XHP with crisp/smooth shifts. My question is really on the optional "RACE" selection and how it's used with the Sutphin tune. I emailed and he was nice enough to get back to me but i'm still unclear. Is it always there at full throttle and above 5k rpm's because that's what i'm thinking at the moment? Is anyone using this with race and what's the feedback? Do we not select it? Need some insight if at all possible...

So far I have 300 Miles since I flashed Rod's tune, I got race mode and I *think* it's just on all the time. My assumption is that WOT in S/D 3 is what would be considered race mode. He does say, though, not to enable drag mode in XHP since race mode is already enabled in the tune itself.

So far pretty happy with it, especially over OTS stage 2. I'm stock engine tuning and I chirp 2nd gear regularly now LOL. It's kind of hilarious.

Thanks for the feedback and i think that helps me some.
Question, did you notice any difference in throttle response off idle? (even with mhd stg 2 can't get used to the delay off idle in the throttle)
I'm just trying to be precautious because although i do drive it hard sometimes most of the time it's just spirited driving and i really done want the XHP drag mode type of shift all of that time... so i'm torn on the information to this point on whether i want or don't want "race" mode.

Unfortunately no change in the throttle delay off idle. It's actually the only thing I really dislike about the car to be honest. Makes zero logical sense to me why it does this, because the car does move forward but not with the same relationship to where the throttle is, and when it catches up it lurches forward.

It almost feels like there is some kind of throttle remapping in 1st gear which changes what the DME actually sees as relative throttle position.

I asked the same question before I bought and he said "race mode is built into the tune, it will be on during WOT and when shifting is 5k rpm and higher." So I assume that means its always there in the background, but "race" shifting will only happen in those 2 scenarios regardless of drivelogic setting or if launch control is active. If it only activated in D3/S3 I feel like he would've included that in the email, but all conjecture on my part of course. I bought the tune Friday, still waiting for him to send the tune over.

That delay is also the only thing I dislike about the car as well. I bought a dinan throttle controller and it helps a little but its still present enough to be annoying. It disappears with the more aggressive throttle mapping but then you end up "bucking" the car if you push the gas a little too aggressively. I was hoping this tune would fix that.

I can't stand it... it's an awesome driveline but i very much prefer the B58/N55/N54 throttle mapping. Wonder if a tuner would chime in and if this can be tuned out... It's definitely in the accelerator pedal to throttle opening relationship and you would think those tables could be changed...

That makes sense, I think the way it was worded threw me off a little bit. If you got the same e-mail I got, under Best Results, bullet point 2 it mentioned D3/S3 so I just kinda figured that was race mode LOL

So that's the consensus i guess, it's activated in D3/S3? I'm old so bare with me lol!!!

LOL no worries. I think what AW is saying is that it's active in all drive modes above 5k at WOT.

Ok so it turns out he emailed it to me Friday night, hours after I bought it, but it was in my spam folder lol. Installed it this morning. Haven't been able to do much since work is only 5 miles away.

Folks at Bend Calibration sorted this on my first rev without even asking about it lol. Maybe hit them up.

If that's the case, it's something you should technically be able to play around with on your own. Once I go in for my next service, June, I'll be flashing the car finally. :-|

That's great to hear... i'm MHD and i don't see that listed at Bend but maybe another tuner who supports MHD can do the same. Thanks for the information.

Great to hear and to be clear, you feel that their tune helped in regard to accelerator pedal to throttle delay off idle and your generally happy with the tune?

Their tune has been nothing short of amazing and from the first flash I never had any issue with throttle delay.

I took a peak at the throttle values in the MHD bin files with TunerPro, nothing is jumping out at me in terms of changes to be made. I'd have to see it in Live View and log it to know what's actually happening.

It's weird, if you go qtr to half accelerator position off idle you get one throttle response but if you floor it, there's a tremendous delay like the relationship between APP and Throttle Position is drastic. With tuner pro you can open an MHD map (or other) look and or modify it? I'm not too familiar with it.
