how likely we'll see a zhp 335i in a couple years?

let's say factory authorized chip, different body kit. how likely this will happen?

The factory has NEVER authorized a chip. The closest thing to that is Dinan.

And has the factory ever put out a twin-turbo? Or a V8? The point is, you can't say BMW will not do something just because it hasn't done so in the past.

the e46 330 did have a different type of software compared to the regular models. so yes the factory has offered a software.

For the threadstarter, you need to understand that the zhp model was their last marketing scheme for the e46 line and will probably be the very last marketing scheme for the e90 as well. Dont expect the zhp for another 2-3 years maybe about 1-2 years after the facelift.

Agreed, I'm sure a big part of offering up the ZHP package was to promote more sales of the car after being out for a while, in addition to being a response to HP increases by competitors (i.e. Lexus).

Your reference was specific to that model through the factory. Not as an aftermarket option through the parts department. Thats what I was saying.

I wouldn't have thought there would be one any time soon. BMW can't cope with the demand for the N54 as it is.

Realeasing an update would make no sense at all.

If there is going to be one I would have thought that it would come at the end of the product life-cycle to boost sales just before the new model comes in.

Audi do the same on the A4 with the DTM edition.

BMW is going to have to constantly tweak the psi on their twin turbo I6, so we might get a ZHP version.

Remember guys, for whatever reason (probably marketing) bmw kept the I6 layout instead of going to larger displacement v6 like it's competitors. In order to keep up with the competition and justify the BMW premium, they had to go forced induction. I hope BMW, like Nissan, built some room for hp in their twin turbo engine. From what I've ready online, there's a heat issue with 5-6 cylinders which must be recitified before they add more boost.

Doesn't Procede add boost without any problems, why couldn't BMW do the same thing.

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is ZHP, I always just thought it was the factory order code for "sport package" can someone please explain.

Cus then they would be stepping on their own toes with the release of the M3.

ZSP is sport package, ZHP was the competition package offered on the e46 variant of the 3 series. It had better suspension (M?) and a few other tweaks.

I expect M-tech aeros, stiffer suspension, higher redline and carbon fiber-looking trim on the interior. Maybe different steering wheel and slight + in power output.

But who knows? That's just most of what was on the e46 ZHP

Also, as someone said before, it won't happen for a long time - it's an incremental improvement used by marketing to increase sales before the new model comes out

IIRC,
ZSP = Sport package
ZHP = Performance package
ZCP = Competition Package for M3.

ZHP will be released when it makes sound business sense to do so. Given the competition from the G37, IS-F, AMG, etc., it could be a very smart idea to release a ZHP package sooner rather than later. The M-sport pack is available now in Euro. The engine mods may have to wait for further engineering improvements.

Yes, you could see ZHP in the sedan as soon as Fall 2009 as an 2010 model........

Facelift is scheduled for Fall 08' intro........

Point is, if you buy now on a 36mos. lease by the time its almost over you can jump right into the ZHP.......or, if your like me- you just wait for Fall 08' and get
the frickin' M3 sedan......MMMMM.....

yup... M3 sedan is a definite. I"m sure there are spy shots on this very board.

as for ZHP. I'm gonna say that the ZHP sedan may come out for an 09 model year... the coupe for 2010... but that's just my guess. I haven't even heard a rumor about it, so I'm making my own :P
