Credit Card Key Pairing

(45e) I put the credit card key in the NFC spot center console for initial setup but it's never recognized to pair with the car. Anyone know how to get it working?

When I picked up my car they helped me to set that up I believe you can find in myBMW app to pair with your phone

You have to go into settings and start the prompt to enable it in addition to putting it on the nfc pad. It's an option next to activating a digital key.

You need to have both Keys in the car as well when you set the NFT card up.

so you tried initiating from the app. as mentioned, are both key fobs in the vehicle during setup? also, the vehicle should not be in the drive-ready state

understood. if not successful, you can still put the vehicle in valet mode and safely hand over your key fob

i think the "key" thing might be you need both keyfobs with you to do the setup. i remember having to go back into my desk where the extra key is kept to do the setup.

I believe when I was setting up our key card I had to start the process from the app, instead of the car, even though when the card was placed in the tray a menu popped up asking if I wanted to start the pairing process.

I definitely remember it being a little finicky. Also yes I needed both key fobs in the vehicle to pair the key card.

The key card has nothing to do with the app or the BMW Digital Key (phone based). The key cards have been included with the vehicles before the iPhone and Android wallet key was even a thing. The only real requirements are:

1) Engine Off Ignition "ON". Just press start w/o foot on brake.
2) Both key fobs in car
3) No existing key card is paired. May want press "Remove/Reset" for any Key Card that is already paired. Settings > Doors Vehicle Access > Digital Key.
4) Ensure Key Card is for YOUR vehicle. On a used vehicle, it's possible the seller accidentally put a card in that isn't coded for your VIN. You cannot use a key card from another vehicle. Trust me, I've tried.

After all above steps performed, Settings > Doors Vehicle Access > Digital Key > Activate

I had the same exact problem activating the physical card as well as the phone based digital key. No amount of following online instructions helped. In the end, the dealer needed to completely reset the car’s telematics system which finally allowed the key card to be recognized and paired/linked. Good luck!

one can reboot telematics any time. simply hold the radio VOL button until 3 consecutive restarts of the infotainment system (some do 4, and some report having to perform this several times). you can let go of the button when you see the startup screen on the last restart.

i just did this after renewing my Traffic Camera subscription and 4 attempts to "Update apps and services" didn't work to add it to my Apps. the icon only showed up after one telematics reboot

Apologies for bringing up this old thread. I recently bought a 2020 X50i and it did not come with a Key Card. I am planning to order a new one online. Will I be able to pair it with my car considering that it wasn't originally coded to my VIN from BMW?

Thanks!

No you will not. You need to order one specific to your vehicle, usually through a dealer.

Ah! Thanks!
I am not sure if the dealer will be able to order one as this seems to be a discontinued product but I will check. Thanks again!!

I just ordered a key card from my dealer this week for a CPO 2020 M50i. Works to unlock, start and lock. Dealer I purchased the M50i from wanted $115 for the key card plus $250 to "program" it. I went to another dealer and bought it for $68 with my BMWCCA discount and activated it per post #11 with no problem.
