Stick With '16 Order Or Wait for '17?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I've got a deposit down on a 2016 F82; however, when I was spec'ing out the car at the dealership, I was presented with the unfortunate news that since it was so late in the model year, the additional time needed to get an individual color made Tanzanite unavailable, so I went with my second choice, MG.

The thought is still in the back of my mind that I should just wait for a '17 so I can get the color I wanted, but I know there would be some downsides with it. Other than the smaller warranty (*maintenance*) and the potential for smaller or no incentives, is there anything else I should consider if I want to cancel my 2016 order and go with a 2017?

Are you buying or leasing?

Lease residuals tend to take a pretty substantial dive for early MY builds. You may want to plan for a ~5pt hit if you decide to switch from MY16 to MY17.

I'd go with the 17 then.

You may end up paying a bit more out of pocket for maintenance, but you'll avoid an extra year of depreciation...plus you'll get the color you want.

The hardest part is going to be the extra wait.

And 2017 gets iDrive 5.0! I would wait for 2017 if you are buying.

I wouldnt wait. Life is short and the depreciation difference won't be much. But I don't personally give two farts about iDrive not why I buy this car.

Thanks. I'm indeed going to go with ordering the 2017. Just keeping an eye on when pricing comes out now!

OP - what is the build on the 2016 and what kind of pricing were you getting?

MG w/ Black Extended Leather, 6 speed, Exec, Lighting. Was quoted 1500 over invoice.

After I informed them I'd like a '17, I believe they changed the spec on the allocation as it wasn't in status 150 yet (Comp pack and DCT were added if I recall).

iDrive software and worse maintenance plan. IMO not worth waiting for if you already have an order.

People said to wait on the 15s too cause they would have issues but I don't see the 16s being anymore reliable. If 17 was getting LCI for the M4 maybe I could see it but thats 2018 and tail lights are cheap.

No brainer for me, you wait for 17. The iDrive upgrade is a very nice upgrade. But more importantly, get the color you want. You are buying this car so you'll be stuck with it.

Get it exactly how you want it. The 17s start in just a month, so it's not like you'll have to wait long.

I ordered my 2017 last week from David at Steve Thomas. Since I am buying the car I got a Individual color and ZCP.

I will keep my mind of it by buying mods so when the car gets here i'll have eveything from rims to suspension
