I am installing yellow DRL on my 2018 M5 right now and it is a pain since the bumper cover has to come off for access. There are some DIY. I have not finished yet so I don’t have any comments. I am installing the Carbahn intercooler supplemental heat exchanger first. In the photo you will see a set of aluminum fins sticking down from the underside of the headlight. The module is inside of that finned cover.

Thank you! I was hoping their plug-and-play would mean I could keep my bumper on.

Pre LCI are plug and play. You just have to do some work to get to where you can plug and play.

I wonder on LCI if you just can change to CS modules? Should be plug and play.

LCI is even more challenging. I think you have to remove the headlight and take it apart. But I don’t have an LCI so you should verify that.

EDIT: I think I am wrong about LCI, but you do have to pull the headlight and that takes some work. Read this thread:

I recently read of member here buying them and that one has failed, but I don’t recall how long they were installed and that is the only failure I have read about. It is not rocket science to pull the bumper and headlights. This is my first time and it probably took me 2 hours. I could probably cut that in half next time.

Correct lci needs the bumper pulled to gain access to removing the drl. Both are plug and play meaning you don't have to remove your oem led boards from the heatsinks and reglue them.

Did you mean to say the pre-LCI requires the front bumper to be removed? Everything I’ve seen confirms that the bumper and headlight, for the pre-LCI, needs to be removed to install the new modules

Pre-LCI requires bumper removal and then headlight removal. I just installed some eBay yellow DRL on my 2018 M5. I chose modules that came pre-installed into heat sinks. There are also modules available that require installation into your heat sinks, which is not a big deal but takes a little more time and care. If you can pull your bumper and remove your headlights, you can handle removing and installing modules into heat sinks. There was some debate as to the better way to secure the modules into the heat sinks and the pre-installed ones were not much if any more money so I chose them.

I took a gamble (researched but still a risk) on eBay modules, especially given the work to install. MAD probably has direct contacts with manufacturers in China that reduces the risk. Selling modules pre-installed into heat sinks reduces the risk of an improper glue or tape install.

Yes sorry. On other vehicles it's the other way around lci requires bumper removal.

So are you saying you do not have to remove the bumper on the LCI F90 to remove the headlights?

All 2018-2023 M5 require bumper removal and then also headlight removal to install DRL modules.
