A resonator delete does not add any power or take any away. Maybe you are hearing a “more powerful sound” but feeling nothing different and thinking there must be less power.

I read somewhere that it shifts the tq band up a bit, so it feels like you lost maybe a few lbs of tq but just moved it up.
Do you feel more of a dead pedal feel? or just less lungey at first tip in once pressing gas pedal |

Theoretically, reducing back pressure causes a low end torque loss, but you would not feel a few lbs out of 550 lbs.
What the OP did here was to eliminate the crossover pipe — an X inside the stock resonator or an exposed X on the Dinan X pipe, and a straight crossover pipe on some aftermarket exhausts. Few people eliminate the crossover. It is the cheap way to eliminate the resonator but maybe not the best way. There is a utube video on adding an X pipe to an older M5 with S63 that had been straight piped by a previous owner and the consensus was that it made more power with the X pipe and sounded better. Search for it. I suspect a dyno would have shown minimal and that the big change was in the sound. |
