how divisive is the sunroof?
i know on the M3, sunroofs are the death knell for resale. no one wants 'em (regardless of how silly the notion of it factually mattering is). does the same happen in these parts? looking at a perfect spec car for me, but it's got a sunroof. i don't think i care, and it's a lease so i don't care about terminal resale either, but i like having optionality if i need to bail early..

They are not bad for re-sale because the M5 is more of a luxury car than the M3. That being said, my own personal preference is that I would only own one with a carbon fiber roof.

My ‘19 had a sunroof and it was very noisy. Lots of squeaking and creaking, drove me insane and had to have the dealer work on it several times. Now my ‘23 has the cf roof and I’m much happier!

The creaks are because of dust and dry seals. They disappear with some rubber lube. Mine is almost always open, since weather permits that year-round in socal.
If you want a sunroof, get a sunroof. Get the car for you, not what the next guy might want... |

ended up getting the sunroof. yeah, it creaks a bit. can't hear it when i close the cover (it's pretty heavy duty). still drive with the cover open most of the time so i guess it doesn't bother me all that much.

I had a sunroof in my '18. Rarely used it and kept the shade closed most of the time. Ordered my '21 with CF roof and appreciate the additional headroom too.

After 2.5 yrs of ownership- ironically enough, today I admired my carbon roof and took a moment to just appreciate it. So much better than a sunroof. The roof line flows w the hood and trunk spoiler w the carbon.
Sunroof will does not have the same lines. Rarely used. My .02

I enjoy the sunroof in my F90. I think from the exterior, the CF roof probably does look cooler. But to me the more important view is from inside the car. I keep the interior sunroof liner open, and then the glass closed, so I have the extra sunlight and moonlight in the cabin, which really gives it an open feeling, without opening and closing the glass (and no wind). I keep it closed in the summer to keep it a little cooler but otherwise enjoy the extra sunlight.

I bought a M5C w/ carbon roof as I had no choice - ordering banks were impossible 1 yr ago , so I scored an absolute beauty from dealer inventory - however had I ordered one I would have 1000% ordered with a sunroof . I miss the optionality to open or tilt the roof , live in SoCal - it’s kinda mandatory .
If I get a ‘25 M5C , will order it with sunroof

Sometimes I wish I had the CF roof, just to enjoy the look from the outside, but thats about it. I like having the sunroof cracked and hearing the exhaust better when its colder out, and its nice to drive with the cover open at night or on cold cloudy days. In summer its too hot it keep it open actually.
Always lusted after sun roof cars, now having owned 4 of them, next one might be without sunroof if CF is still an option. |

I didn't realize how good the cf roof looks until I saw it in person. Moonroof is 👎

I agree the CF roof looks better, but you won’t see it when driving. If you like seeing the sky when driving, then the sunroof is the way to go. If you would never use the sunroof, don’t buy a car with one — it adds weight and complexity.
I bought my car used. It has a sunroof. I use it occasionally. I find that the rear open position helps pull air through the vents. I would be just as happy without it but am not unhappy with it. |

I believe it's more important to get a F90 with the proper specs and low mileage, rather than worrying about resale value depending on wether it has CF roof or sunroof.
Mine was fully loaded, except for rear seat entertainment and carbon ceramics, but I did not want those options anyway. Mine has sunroof, even though I orignally wanted CF roof. The biggest plus with a sunroof is that you can hear the exhaust better with the roof tilted on cold days. Since I don't have CF roof, I decided to also not have any CF parts on the entire car, so that it just looks like a normal luxury sedan and more of a sleeper, which is what the 5-series actually is. F90 is after all the first 5er to ever come with CF roof. If you're going to add a whole bunch of exterior CF M-performance parts, then it will probably look better with a CF roof as well imo. Performance wise you'll not notice any difference, unless you're going for a 1000hp+ and 9-second car build. |

I did. It rattled, and I drove with the cover closed to not hear it. It had no impact on my ability to flip out of the lease early, which was my original question, and which most people ignored completely lol.
