I most recently used Quaker State 5W40. Last time it was Pennzoil 5W40 but Walmart was out if that and the QS by some accounts is the same oil. Have also used Castrol 5W40. Lots of good oils. Look for BMW LL01 spec.
If you are trying to maximize fuel economy use 5W30 LL01FE. If you do not consistently do oil analysis that give you information that shows longer oil change intervals are OK, I would change every 5k miles. That is what I do — just change the oil and filter every 5k. |

I don’t know the answer for sure, but this is an excerpt from a post from a few years ago in another forum:
“To the best of my understanding, LongLife-04 was designed around diesel engines with very sensitive emissions equipment, with lower levels of zinc and phosphorus than than of LongLife01. About 10 years ago, LongLife-04 was deemed unsuitable for BMW gasoline engines outside of Europe, not only because of a lower starting TBN with higher sulfur fuel, but also due to the presence of ethanol in countries like the United States. Mercedes-Benz did the same thing, specifying MB Sheet 229.5 over 229.51 for vehicles exported outside of Europe.” |

I just did the oil advisor at Motul and it recommended a 5W40, which is also BMW LL-01.
Anyone have any opinions on this? https://www.motul.com/en-GB/lubrican...dations/137543 |
