You're absolutely right, it might even be 72k fully equiped but not everyone is going to max it out with options. Not everyone can afford to do that.
Some that can just afford the M3 will sacrifice many of those options just so they can enjoy owning a new M3 without nav, 19"wheels, leather seats etc. Even $63 - $65k is an amazing price out the door for what you're getting.
