I also don't get the fondness for the E39. I wanted one desperately in 2003. But now when I sit in one the interior just looks so old and late 1990s. And unless you have replaced almost every component on the car it won't drive like it did 20 years ago. You can't escape the ravages of time on all the plastic and rubber components in the suspension and drivetrain. Plus metal fatigue and general wear and tear on everything. That's why you should drive the heck out of your car and enjoy it. The miles cause wear, but so does time. So you might as well use it.

In the end entropy takes over everything.
