One thing I would do when driving up is leave super early. Got to San Fran from LA in 4 hours, beat out all the truck traffic and slow drivers.
I've stayed at Parc 55, Hilton, InterContinental, the W and Four Seasons. The parking garages are pretty safe, but costs average $50-60 a night. And yeah, like everyone said its not worth it to drive, its cheaper to use Uber.
