Victor is right.

Id rent a car. The hills in SF will murder your front end. They have a ton of people who will hit your car and run off because they don't have insurance or they don't want it to sky rocket because the insurance is already high there. Everything is parallel parking so you run the risk of curbing a wheel too. They do give no front plate tickets every chance they get and if you don't curb a wheel as well.

Sorry to scare you but i used to live there and left because of those reasons. lol..
