Are you sure it was only the valve cover leaking? What about the filter housing? Or even the Oil Pan Plug. How may miles to get to 1qt low? 3000? 5000? 10,000? Wait till the computer says so?

Thanks for your reply! I'd have to get it inspected but currently have no (visible) leaks. when I had the gasket replaced, it didn't use any oil, in between oil changes (I was adding about 3qts before replacement in between) so I'm 3/4 of a qt down in the last about 5000 miles which is why I'm not too concerned but don't want it to get worse
