It is an interesting comparison, but not relevant for everyone. It really is the problem of the M3 - it draws comparisons to sports cars like the F type or Corvette, but many buyers (like me) want and need the 4 seats. So this is never a comparison I would run - I wouldn't cross shop the two because the F type just isn't what I need.
Is it a better pure sports car? Probably. Is it as useful as a DD? For those with kids or who need a trunk (thinking convertible F type) no.
Has been said elsewhere, but the point of the M is to be both a track beast and a useful DD. That is why it is a souped up version of a regular ole 3 series and not a stand alone sports car model, like the F type. Different life missions.
