Detergent will only weaken the water resistency of the fabric. Same goes for those commercial "soft top restorer" products. Never used 'em, never will.
Side note: Never fold up/retract a wet/damp fabric roof. One of the few downsides to a soft top. But then, they don't take long to dry either!

Good advice. But after every 2 or 3 washes, it's a good idea to treat the top with RaggTopp fabric (not vinyl) protectant.

Also, if you insist on using an automatic car wash, don't forget to remove the black radio antenna first.
