Just went down the same path as the OP:

Muffler and secondary cats cut out and replaced with custom mandrel bent stainless piping. Sounds pretty much as illustrated in the original post. The factory resonator remains though I'm considering having it replaced with an x-pipe at some point. May also add a resonator closer to the exit similar to the Eisenmann Race piece.
Edit: A little added info, total cost for labor and materials was ~$850. Could have had it done for closer to $650 if I would have kept the secondary cats.
