Yes, we've all been told that. Your dealer, who has a stock of new tires close by, will certainly tell you that. You'll get into the differential discussion and tire diameter differences. I am not sure what there Differential is for any more.

Interestingly enough, or local Subaru dealer (son's experience) has a machine to WEAR DOWN the new tire to match the older one. Now that is interesting. Maybe something to that differential thing? Who knows.

You know what else can happen at high speeds?

1. A New Nail or chunk of metal can impale your tire just as you 'crush' that Vette
2. A Deer can jump out in front of you (several friends)
3. A chunk of steel can impale your roof (son's Girlfriends car on highway)
4. Large Rock can be dropped from overpass (reported many times by jackasses)
5. You can spill your coffee at high speed (not me LOL)
6. A control arm can give out (any given Chevy or Ford)
7. A wheel can go flying off because the 'dealer tech' failed to torque the lugs (my brother - car salesman at the time and a friend who is a cop - same dealership)
8. Sudden Low Oil Light because debris took out oil cooler
9. TWO nails at the same time, probably common on the Mass Pike at Rush hour LOL.
10. Etc Etc.

Plugs are fine. You have to assess the size of the hole and the location. On sidewall, not a good choice. On a near bald tire, not a good idea, Hole from a 1/2 bolt, probably not a good idea.

If they were not safe, would they still be sold?

Mike
