For me, it came down to the understated good looks of the M5 over the "look at me" looks of the M8 GC. The M5 being the cheapest point of entry into the S63 4.4L V8 engine platform with defeatable 4WD was just a bonus.
I had a hard time justifying a $24 grand bump in price for the same performance platform.

Assuming you get the full Merino in the M5, interior quality really isn't that much different. Plus, only the M5 can have the massaging seats!

Yeah for me it's a toss up between the two. New 8 interior disappointed me a bit. 5 looks a bit more traditional and dash design is showing a little age but the 8 isn't my favorite.
