From a fellow Canuck, we did it. Saw it mostly as an insurance policy type thing, and while I hate insurance, it was something that could potentially make a huge difference for my sons.

Part of what helped us decide was one of my wife's friends had her son (and this woman is a doctor, speaks the medical lingo, knows signs to look for, etc), anyways, her son developed some sort of condition (can't remember what) at about 18 months. Looked fine at birth and all, and she didn't even really notice anything, it was her friends who told her that she should really get her son checked out.

Anyways, it was the cord blood that wound up basically saving this kids life. He's completely normal and healthy again and they were pretty happy they had made the decision to save it.

So you never know - better to have it and not need it and to not have it and need it.

We used Cells for life, but there really are so many providers out there.
