Yes, likely from dealers who have current allocation or are selling you a production allocation they know they have coming up in the next few months. The M5 certainly has build allocations allotted to dealerships. No dealership can just sell as many M5's as they want.

I ordered mine from a very large volume East Coast dealer towards the end of the summer (August), yet they didn't have an allocation available for production until October. My order sat in BMW's system from August until October before it moved into production. I was told their next available allocation after mine was in December (from memory). So that meant they could only have 2 2021 M5's built in 2020, unless they traded a slot/allocation with another dealer.
