I'm waiting on my m3 w/ 18s as well. I didn't get the tire insurence, I took into considerstion a new set of 4 tires cost around 1000 with installation.
I'm pretty good with my tires my 335 with 18s never really had any problem and never replaced the tires in the 2 years I owned it. But on the other hand my infiniti q50s with 19s I ripped my tires 3 times already in the past 8 months but the dealer gave me free tire warranty cuz I was walking away. Reason why I got 18s
So in my experience you should be good with 18s but it's your call
