A lot of manufacturers (including BMW, Merc, Ferrari, Porsche etc.) develop OEM specific variants with the tire manufacturers that change a generic tire model to better match the specific car. So, using the F90 as an example-BMW developed F90 M5 specific Michelin PS4S (Star) tires and specific Pirelli P-Zero (Star) tires. That's what the Star (and price premium) on BMW OEM tires means.
