I think you are being too hard on the M550. This car has the same power as the old M5 F10 which was a beast at the time! Everyone understands the M550 is NOT an M5 but "Boring as hell" is a bit harsh in my opinion!!!

I drove the M550ix last week. It had the B&W stereo option, this is important to me as my E63 has the upgrade Burmester 3D. Even with the the M550 in the sportiest mode, the car was boring as hell. Nowhere near crisp steering or handling, nor throttle response, as compared to my AMG. The stereo was clear in the upper register, but was a bit anemic compared to the Burmester which has far better bass response. The B&W would suffice and reminded me of my B&O that was in the Audi S6 I had before the AMG. I was really thinking I would get the M550 before driving it because it is more practical, better mileage, run flats or spare, etc...

The dealer had an M5 sitting next to the M550. They had no issue giving me the keys. Sitting in it felt like home with the sportier interior and seats. I was sold on startup. I drove it around for ten minutes and the decision was a no brainer. The car felt right, considering I drive an E63S. Hard to compare the two as this was just a test drive, but I prefer the snappy BMW iDrive, the M buttons, the look of the instrument panel, and the ride a little. The AMG stereo wins hands down. The AMG massage seats work better, and I like the active bolsters. Not deal breakers... especially since the M5 lease is much better!

I ended up ordering:

Tanzanite Blue
Y Forged Rims - black caliper
Black and Midrand Beige full interior w/dark aluminum
Competition package
Executive and Driver assist packages
B&W stereo
No moonroof
M Titanium Performance Exhaust
Wheel/tire/ding/windshield insurance

Car is $134,235 including guzzler tax and delivery. Discount is then $8055 plus $750 Corp rebate. Insurance is $3207. NJ tax is 6.625%. MF is .00071 with MSDs. Payment is $1653 a month with all rolled in and me paying $1343 up front ( I decided to pay for the exhaust as a Cap Paydown since I am thinking of it as an aftermarket upgrade, though it is not). The drive off payment is $3000 which includes first month. I had mentioned putting $3k down and they misunderstood and quoted $3k drive off. No biggie. That was the best I could do without battling and I think the dealer did a good job and I like my sales guy a lot. They offered that deal with zero haggle, although we discussed my insane E63 deal before they quoted me. They told me they would do their best and in my market they were in the ballpark for an ordered vehicle. This is 3yr, 10k fwiw.

Any suggestions to change before the build begins?

Now the wait starts....

Honestly I agree with OP, The regular 5er is pretty boring. Aside from straight line speed, the G30 is pretty dull in the corners. I had a fully loaded 540i that I inherited for a year and was bored driving it. Its capable but lacking in feeling, too much body roll, numb steering, and just couldn't compare to its earlier predecessors in my opinion.
