I had the same experience as you, wasn't too crazy about the looks of the M2 in pictures, but seeing it in person really changed my opinion, even LBB on the M2 looks perfect.
The one area I think that's lacking is the tail light design, makes the rear look a bit awkward, hopefully the LCI update will improve that.
